CAT 2020

Common Admission Test or CAT 2020 is a National Level eligibility cum entrance exam for taking admissions into various post graduate programs taught by IIM’s all over India. There are about more than 18 IIM Institutes all over India. There are two phases of the examination. The first phase is the written examination and the second phase will be taken by the IIM’s. All the necessary information about the exam dates, eligibility criteria, forms and all are given in this post.



CAT 2020 Examination Dates

CAT 2020 examination will be on the month of November 2020. Tentative dates for the Examination and other event dates are given in this table.

Note: These are tentative dates based on previous year examination. Dates will be changed as soon as officials release the notification.

CAT 2020 Registrations                                 

All the candidates who wish to take CAT 2020 examination, will have to first register on their official website (iimcat.ac.in). Before registering, candidates are advised to have a look on application form details, required documents, process, etc.

CAT 2020 Application Form

Filling of application form will start from the month of July 2020. Last week of September will be the last date to submit the form. The form will be made available only through online mode. There are no other offline methods to fill out the form. The candidates are requested to fill their proper and correct details in the form. The form will be available on their official website – iimcat.ac.in.

Candidates should read all the instructions before filling the online application form for CAT 2020. After filling the application form, password and ID number will be created. Keep it safe as it will require for the entire admission process.

Attach a scanned photograph to the form and take a print out of it. Then the form has to be submitted online only.

CAT 2020 Admission Process

Each IIM has its own admission procedure which the candidate has to follow. Candidates will receive a letter to their home address mentioned in the form. The selection process will vary from different IIM to IIM. In general, after CAT 2020 examination, candidates will have to appear for written aptitude test followed by GD & PI (Group Discussion and Personal Interview). Admissions will be given on candidates eligibility.




CAT 2020 Application Fees

Candidates of the general and NC-OBC category have to pay Rs. 1600/- as an application fee and people with SC/ST/PWD will have to pay Rs. 800/- The fees can be paid through net banking, Debit Card (Master/Visa) or Credit Card (Master/Visa/American Express).

Transaction fees have to be paid separately with the application fee.

Transaction fees are as follows:

Debit Card (Visa/Master/Rupay) 0.75% of the value of the transaction for the amount up to Rs.2000.00.
Cash Card & Wallet 1.75% of the value of the transaction.
Net Banking Per Transaction Rs.20

 

Eligibility Criteria for CAT 2020

Candidate should have a bachelor’s degree with 50% Aggregate or its equivalent CGPA. Also, the candidates who have appeared for their final year examinations and are waiting for their results, they too are eligible to apply for CAT 2020 examination. Candidates completed their Master’s degree can also apply for CAT 2020 examination.

Marking scheme

CAT 2020 is a computer-based test where the candidate will have to choose the correct answer. The candidates will be allotted a terminal computer at the test center for the examination. The paper has 3 sections. Each section will have some MCQ’s and Non-MCQ questions.

All MCQ questions carry negative marks if answered wrong. A correct answer will reward you with 3 marks. However, there is no negative marking for Non-MCQ questions.




CAT 2020 Exam Pattern

The examination is divided into 3 sections. 1) Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning 2) Quantitative Ability 3) Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension.

  • Duration – 180 Minutes

  • Mode of exam – Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Number of Questions – 180
  • Marking Scheme – 3 marks will be given for a correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

CAT 2020 Admit Card:

  • The admit card will be available only through online mode.
  • Candidates who have successfully completed their form will only get their admit card.
  • Name, Test date, User ID or Registration number PWD status of the candidate will be printed on the admit card.
  • Candidates will have to download their admit card only through the official website by entering their UserID and Password.
  • It is compulsory to bring the admit card during the examination otherwise the candidate won’t be allowed to sit for the examination.

CAT 2020 Result

Candidates can check them through the official website. It will be made available in the month of January 2021. Candidates will have to log in with their login ID and password to check their result. Candidates are advised to take a print out of the result for future uses.

 

CAT 2020 cutoff

CAT cut off marks will be declared only after the results are declared. Cut off marks will be depended on many factors like no of students, difficulty level of exam, seat availability, etc. Cut off marks for different castes will be different so the cut off marks will be published separately.

CAT 2020 selection process

The candidates will be shortlisted according to their cut off marks. Then their preferred IIM institute will call them for PI personal interview, GD group discussions, and WAT written ability test.

After these process, admissions will be provided on the basis of overall performance, work experience, academic records, etc.

Tips to prepare for CAT 2020

  1. Choose a good study material preferably from a good coaching institute.
  2. Write all important points, formulas, and prepare notes from all of this.
  3. Take mock very often and note your progress and the working areas.
  4. Keep aside your calculator and start doing calculations in your mind. This will help increase your speed.
  5. Prepare a study strategy and a timetable.
  6. Keep motivating yourself every day. This is very necessary for your betterment.
  7. Utilize all your time for preparing for CAT examination.
  8. Keep yourself safe and fit.
  9. Eat healthy and ample meal to keep yourself away from starving. As empty stomach won’t help your brain to work.
